The Hong Kong Immigration Department introduced a new visa submission procedure with a daily quota of applications that it will accept from non-permanent residents. The Immigration Department will accept 195 walk-in applications and 150 online applications daily. Applications submitted after the quota has been reached will be processed the next day. Previously, an unlimited amount of applications could be submitted and processed on the same day, which guaranteed a same-day return of passports.

The following types of visas will be included in the quota:

  • Change of Status
  • Change of Sponsorship
  • Extension of Stay
  • Interim Visa Extensions
  • Endorsement Transfers
  • Multiple-Entry Permits
  • Newborn Baby Endorsements

BAL Comment

Due to the new quota system, all applicants should anticipate that an extra two or three days may be required for visa processing.
