China’s public holidays this year have been announced. Travel to and from China in the days before, during and after the holiday is likely to be difficult, and it is unwise to commence travel to and from China at these times without confirmed return bookings.

It is also unlikely that any real business can be conducted during holidays as all government offices and most businesses are closed, or at best on a skeleton staff basis. This is particularly so at Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) which is a family festival with a similar role to Christmas.

For your calendar:

SPRING FESTIVAL – Sunday, January 25 to Saturday, January 31. (Saturday January 24 and Sunday May 1 will both be working days). Travel inside China is crowded and generally not recommended during Spring Festival.

CHI MIN (Tomb Sweeping Day) – Saturday, April 4 to Monday, April 6.

LABOUR DAY – Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3.

DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL – Thursday, May 28 to Saturday, May 30. (Sunday May 31 is a working day)

NATIONAL DAY and MID-AUTUMN DAY – Thursday, October 1 to Thursday, October 8. (Mid Autumn day is determined by the lunar calendar and is combined with the National Day holiday this year).

Designated public holidays have special conditions for employees required to work.
