CHINA - Shanghai Pilot Online Visa Application Process

The State of Shanghai has launched a pilot on-line program application for pre-approval of L (Tourist) Visas and F (Business) Visas and approval of 1 year renewal of residence visas. The program is currently available only in Chinese Mandarin language through the Shanghai’s Exit-Entry Bureau official website. The pilot program accepts and reviews applications in approximately 24 hours. If the application is deemed approved, the system will issue an appointment notice and reservation code for the foreign national or company representative. They will need to appear in person to retrieve their approved documentation at the scheduled time.

The Shanghai pilot program is currently on its early test stage. The Shanghai authorities are evaluating its functionality and success. BAL will continue monitoring the application and will alert its clients if the online program becomes a permanent feature with the Shanghai immigration authorities.
