Merger control (Finland): Finnish Competition Authority approves proposed acquisition of Euromarket Linnanmaa, Euromarket Raksila and Euromarket Kemi by Osuuskauppa Arina

The Finnish Competition Authority (“FCA”) approved the proposed acquisition of Suomen Lähikauppa Oy’s grocery stores Euromarket Linnanmaa, Euromarket Raksila and Euromarket Kemi by Osuuskauppa Arina.

Osuuskauppa Arina, which belongs to the S-Group, is a conglomerate that operates grocery stores, hotels, restaurants, fuel stations and department stores. Euromarket Linnanmaa, Euromarket Raksila and Euromarket Kemi are markets selling consumer and utility goods.

The FCA concluded that the proposed acquisition will not create or strengthen such a dominant market position that would significantly impede effective competition in the Finnish market or in any substantial part thereof. Source: The Finnish Competition Authority (www.kilpailuvirasto.fi) 8/3/2010
