SWEDEN - Foreign Employees Undergoing Training as Part of a Business Deal are Exempted from Holding a Work Permit
- Sweden
- 02/09/2010
Swedish immigration authorities have officially stated on their website:
Foreign employees that will undergo training or conduct tests in Sweden as part of a business deal, will be exempted from the obligation to hold a work permit. Foreign employees, employed by an international group, that will undergo practical training will also be exempted. This means that as of January 1, 2010 persons that will undergo training, conduct tests, prepare or finish deliveries or participate in similar activities in Sweden as part of a business deal, will no longer require a work permit. This also applies to foreign employees employed by an international group that will undergo practical training, on-the-job training or other in-service training at a company in Sweden which is part of the group. The exemption applies to a total of three months during a twelve-month period.
BAL Comment
Any potential training assignment into Sweden must be reviewed carefully. Only those assignments that are part of a “business deal” will be exempted of the work permit requirement. BAL recommends you contact your advisor to determine if your particular qualifies under this new rule.
