The Federal Police Department in São Paulo has instituted a new registration procedure for foreign nationals. Individuals must first request a password in order to schedule registration services, which are required for issuance of the CPF (Registration of Individual Taxpayers) and the CTPS (Employment and Social Security Booklet). The password request is expected to take 15 to 20 days, and until such time it is granted no application may be accepted. Priority processing of the password request will only be granted if an individual personally appears and can demonstrate urgent international travel scheduled within the next business day.

BAL Comment

Foreign nationals are required to register with the Federal Police within 30 days of arrival to Brazil. Clients are urged to inform employees scheduled to transfer to Brazil for work assignments in São Paulo that password requests should be immediately submitted so that they can timely complete the registration process. Completion of the registration process is important as it ensures the individual’s ability to maintain legal status in Brazil, as well as his/her ability to extend status if required.
